Haines, July 28- August 3, 2009

When we arrived in Haines, the RV park which we wanted was not available. We had to drive down the road and find a pull-off by the ocean to stay the night.

This is Haines Small Boat Harbor.

Once we were able to get into Oceanside RV park, this is the view we had out our window. Tough life we live!

This is is a view of Haines downtown toward the harbor.
This is a view of Fort Seward from the road on the way from our first nights stay and from the ferry terminal. Fort Seward in an old Army post that has been bought by private officers and has private residences, galleries, restaurants & hotels there.
This is the view we had out our front window when we parked beside the road for that first night. Pretty neat, eh?

This is a view of a cruise ship, parked at Haines.

This is a group of surf scooters playing follow the leader! They're following a school of fish and diving on them.

This artist was at the RV park on the bay, where we were able to get into the second day. We had an incredible view of the mountains across from Haines. This artist was pretty good.
This is an eagle in flight, which we were able to see out our front window. He had come down to the water & snatched a fish earlier.

We drove a side road around the backside of the pennisula from Haines and found this picturesque cannery beside the bay.

This shows that some of the hills on the way to the cannery were very steep!

Once we got around the side of the mountain & bay, we saw two mountains with glaciers on them. They were really blue in color-pretty neat.

This is a closeup of that glacier from the previous photo. I think this is stilled called a river glacier.

As you can see from Jim's attire, we droive this way on Sunday afternoon, after church. This was Chilkat Park and Jim wanted his children & grandchildren to know how this pump made water for a drinking fountain as well as other uses! I don't know if you can see the water coming out for the drinking fountain.

The day we left Haines, the smoke from some inland fires made it to the coast, so I call this the "ghost cruise ship"!

While in Haines we went to a wildlife park and to the Southeast Alaska State Fair. I will show those photos in a separate blog.
