Soldotna & Kenai, July2, 2009

After we set up camp in Soldotna at the Centenial Campground, we left to drive 24-35 miles one way on a side trip to see the town of Kenai & Nikinski. The town of Nikinski was a very industrial town supported by gas and oil companies who drill offshore. Kenai is a town of about 7,000 with a nice Visitor Center. On the way out, we saw this Moose Cow right at the side of the road, eating! What are the odds? This is on a four lane highway with traffic. She didn't care.

See the blue Lupin wildflowers at her feet?

She is eating the trees.

She is still eating the trees.

Here is the last photo of her! I promise!

We discovered that we could drive the Jeep on the beach at Kenai, so we did! Jim did it. The beach was very rocky. I was able to get a few sample rocks to bring home to Georgia!

We saw this cute, very little chapel along the way!

Jim says that it is for "ye of little faith". :-)

This is the interior of the little chapel. Nicely done and very small.
