Ensign Peak, March 10, 2012

This particular Saturday, we decided to hike up Ensign Peak, a small mountain just outside of the city.  It is about 5400 feet above sea level but Salt Lake is also about 4400 feet above sea level.

For us Latter Day Saints, this is of historical and spiritual value because this is where Brigham Young had a vision when still in Nauvoo, Illinois and before they left to travel west with the saints.  The vison was of Joseph Smith and the peak, where an ensign fell upon the peak. Joseph said, "Build under that point where the colors fall and you will prosper and have peace."   Later Brigham and several others climbed up to the top and knew that this is what he had seen in the vision and knew that this was the place that his people could settle in peace.
